WORKSHOP
OVERVIEW AND OUTCOMES
WTA
held its second annual workshop at Binna Burra Mountain Lodge and
O'Reilly's Rainforest Guesthouse, near Lamington National Park in south-east
Queensland on 17-19 April 2005. Despite a lower than expected attendance, mostly
due to other work commitments by members at that time, the workshop was
considered a great success by those who attended. The two keynote presentations
by celebrated author Bradley Trevor Greive and politician the Hon. Warren Entsch
MP were very inspiring and thought-provoking. The theme for this year's
workshop was "Wildlife Tourism and Conservation: The perfect marriage?" and
a number of presentations, case studies and workshops relating to this theme
were presented and discussed. There was a focus on subjects of particular
benefit to wildlife tourism businesses and further information on the subjects
covered and proceedings of the workshop are available below.
The
key conclusion emerging from the workshop was that some great work is already
being done by some wildlife tourism operators in 'marrying' wildlife tourism and
conservation. However, there are more opportunities in this area, and WTA is
keen to work with governments in further exploring these opportunities and
removing some of the obstacles currently faced by WT operators.
Following
the endorsement of the idea at our recent AGM, planning is about to commence for
a joint WTA/FACET conference in WA in Spring 2006. We will advise you once this
has been officially agreed and further details are available.

The
Taronga Foundation was established to assist the Zoological Parks Board of New

broaden the Zoos? endeavours in the fields of conservation, environmental
education and care of wildlife.
The
vision of the Taronga Foundation is to be recognised as a world leader in the
