Because there are many conservation projects that must be done, but there are very few people available to help and with very little money to do so. If more and more people volunteer a few hours or a day here and there, then so many things can be achieved for the Australian environment. You may help with answering phones at your local RSPCA office, help remove weeds in nearby bushland, be involved in caring for sick and injured wildlife or attend meetings at your local land or water management offices.
