If you have a pet that you no longer want, do not dump it in the bush. Cats, dogs, fish and other animals can survive and breed. Your pets are very good at killing native animals and can also compete with them for food and shelter. Aquarium fish that have been dumped in rivers and lakes cause problems for native fish and frogs. Letting rabbits loose in the bush is disastrous as they eat the food of native animals and can sometimes even take over and live in their burrows. Instead of dumping your pets, give them to a friend, sell them or take them to the local RSPCA or animal refuge centre. |
