Many of the animals people have brought to Australia kill thousands of native animals and birds each year, particularly cats, dogs, foxes and the cane toad. By controlling your pets, you are protecting the native fauna in your area. If you have a cat, make sure it does not catch native birds or other animals such as bandicoots, possums, native mice and lizards, by attaching several small bells to its collar. This warns other animals that it is coming in time for them to escape. Keep cats inside as much as possible to stop them from roaming, especially at night as this is when cats do their hunting. Take your dogs and cats to the vet and have them desexed. This is to make certain they won't have unwanted puppies or kittens that may end up dumped in the bush.
