Your unwanted fishing line, hooks and nets can entangle or choke many animals such as whales, dolphins, turtles, dugongs, fish, birds, water rats and platypus. Once they are tangled, they cannot breathe, eat or even move and may eventually die. By throwing back small fish, you are giving these babies a chance to grow and reproduce (have babies of their own). By keeping these small fish you may actually be preventing the fish population from increasing, resulting in less fish reaching legal size. Also, if you catch a fish that is obviously pregnant, please return it to the water to ensure that those young have a chance to live and replenish the fish population.
