Small-group wildlife cruises on the Daintree River.

Little-Boatman

Daintree Boatman Nature Tours, operated by Murray Hunt, provides the premier wildlife cruise on the Daintree River with highly sought-after birds, saltwater crocodiles and snakes seen on most cruises. Cruises are limited to just 10 passengers and cruises are personalised, tailored specifically to match guest’s viewing desires. Target birds include Great-billed Heron, Papuan Frogmouth, Black Bittern, Shining Flycatcher and several species of kingfisher including Australia’s smallest, the Little Kingfisher. An average of 40 wildlife species are seen or heard per cruise. Bird sightings are reported to the eBird website.

Cruises depart the boat ramp in Daintree Village. Cruises are conducted in a small comfortable open vessel which enables great views and photography of wildlife in the trees and sky above. Two hour cruises are conducted at dawn and dusk when the river is at its most picturesque, and birdlife is at its most active. For those with a special interest such as wildlife photography, two and a half hour private cruises are available.

  1. A big thank you to Murray we were 30 min late for our booking and he still accommodated us. Was a very informative tour. We saw a croc hatchling, green tree snake . White lip tree frog. We also saw Olive backed sunbirds building their nests. Lucky to see a little kingfisher. Plenty of cattle egrets and a dozen rainbow bee eaters perched on a tree. There were plenty more species. We were very happy with what we saw . Thanks again Murray
