Platypus House

Platypus House offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch both live platypuses and echidnas in daylight conditions and undercover on a captivating and educational guided tour suitable for all ages. Tasmanian Platypuses and Echidnas are unique and cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Platypus House has been established to advance both the science and community awareness about these animals.

Visitors are guaranteed to see both these spectacular egg laying mammals up close and personal, actively feeding and playing during your guided tour of platypus ponds and walk through the echidna garden to see echidnas foraging around your feet in a bushland setting. This is a tour which you will remember for years as you are assured of many great photographic opportunities.

Visitors can also view a film in the Theatrette, browse through the Information Room, buy a gift to remember your living world experience from our extensive gift shop or simply enjoy a great coffee in our café overlooking the Tamar River. Allow at least an hour.

Platypus House is located in the heart of the Tamar Valley, just 40 minutes drive north of Launceston along the West Tamar Highway in Beauty Point. We are open daily from 9:30am – 3:30pm with tours departing at regular intervals throughout the day. Closed Christmas Day.
