Room where the forums will be held

Our first day’s activities will be held at Southbank, just across the river (with several pedestrian crossings) from the main centre of Brisbane, including registration, welcome function and public forums.

Some of our delegates may also choose to stay here (scroll down for Accommodation), as there are convenient buses between the Southbank and Nathan campuses, and it is also a short walk across the bridge to Brisbane’s city centre and main shopping area.

QCA (venue for Sunday’s forums) is a short walk from the Southbank railway station

Conference venue as seen from forest

Monday to Wednesday 31 Oct – 2 Nov

The main part of the conference will be held at the Centre for Interfaith and Cultural Dialogue, Griffith University (Nathan campus): the “university in the forest”.

We will also be holding a public forum (open to members of the public as well as delegates) at the Southbank campus of Griffith University

There will be also a Teams option for those who cannot attend in person.

There are many public buses each day between Southbank or Brisbane City to the Nathan campus.

There are also many accommodation options near Southbank and the city, and a few near Nathan campus (within a 10 or 20 minute bushwalk): see below

The forest harbours koalas, possums, gliders, many birds, reptiles and other wildlife.

Entry to main conference venue

Visit Translink Journey planner for details of bus schedules from city centre or Southbank.

Options from city or Southbank:

  • catch the 135 or the 155 which will take them directly to the Nathan campus (others, like the 120, also a possibility but take longer)

or

  • catch almost anything along the busway (150, 160, 180 good options as they are express), get off at the Griffith Busway Station (which is actually the Mt Gravatt campus) and then catch the bright red (and free) Griffith University intercampus bus to the Nathan Campus. It runs every 15 minutes. The Nathan campus is just on the other side of the motorway, so only a 4 minute trip. There are then maps on campus to direct you to the Multi-faith Centre,

Accommodation

The closest accommodation is a short bushwalk away at Quality Hotel Robertson Gardens (formerly Comfort Inn).

There are many accommodation venues, from backpacker to 5-star hotels near Southbank, around South Brisbane and (across the bridge) Roma Street, and Brisbane City itself (again, just across the bridge from Southbank) within an easy walk to buses that take about 20 minutes to reach Nathan campus, stopping just uphill from our venue.

There are also a few hotels and motels closer to the venue itself, and a couple of these are with walking distance (10 or 20 minutes on walking tracks through the eucalyptus forest). The closest is Quality Hotel Robertson Gardens (formerly known as Comfort Inn), and they have offered a special rate to delegates: “Happy to offer $149 Standard Queen or $169 Deluxe Queen, per room per night, Room Only. Continental Buffet Breakfast is extra $16 pp, each morning. Please advise participants to quote “Griffith University for Wildlife Tourism Australia Conference” to be offered this special rate. A credit card is required at time of booking to secure the room, 24 hours cancellation.”

There is also the Salisbury Hotel, a 30 – 40 minute walk through Toohey Forest to the conference venue.
