Elephant in Kruger National Park: one of the many, many animals I’ve been seeing from my hire car over the past week.

I’m currently in Kruger National Park, South Africa, experiencing a different kind of wildlife watching to the tours I lead back home. Certainly a very different set of species! Different also in that you don’t casually get out of your car to take a closer look at anything: that bush nearby might conceal a crouching leopard or lion!  There are a few places where you can alight at your own risk, but the general rule is to stay in the vehicle (and keep all bodily parts inside, and your windows up if lions, baboons or certain other species could be close by).

I’ve been seeing a wonderful array of animals over the past week, and will be very sorry to leave in a couple of days.  You can read more details in my blog on http://www.aracariaecotours.com

I’ll be leaving Kruger this Wednesday to attend the Best EN Think Tank, near the Paul Kruger Gate, where I’ll present a paper on behalf of Wildlife Tourism Australia: “Conserving biodiversity as tourism (including wildlife tourism) expands: outcomes of discussions across four wildlife tourism workshops” Apparently my powerpoint will be available on their website after the conference.

I hope to gain some additional insights during the Think Tank to present at WTA’s own conference in Geelong this September. I’ll also try to get a chance to add some notes to this blog during the event.

Cheers
